An Italian Sicilian maiolica oviform jar, probably Palermo, 17th century, polychrome painted with a panel depicting the Greek goddess Daphne within a gadrooned cartouche against a patterned ground of masks, floral medallions and foliate scrolls, between bands of scrolling leaves, height 32cm (neck restored). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

An Italian maiolica cylindrical storage or drug jar, Calabrian, 17th century, painted in the Venetian manner with opposing portrait busts within oval ochre ground frames flanked by flowers and foliage, height 30.5cm (restored). Note: a similar example sold at Christie's 'Italian Ceramic Art 1400-1900', 22nd April 2008, Lot 53. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

An Italian maiolica wet drug jar, probably Deruta, 17th century, the ovoid body painted to the front in blue and yellow with grotesques, winged beasts and fauns surrounding a label inscribed 'S.D.ASSENZO', the back painted in blue with leaves surrounding a label inscribed 'S.D.ASSEZO', with bifurcated handle and short spout, height 24.5cm (handle restored). Note: an albarello with similar decoration to this wet drug jar was sold at Sotheby's, 14th December 2004, Lot 2. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

A Sicilian maiolica bombola, Caltagirone, 18th century, the rounded body painted with a pair of crowned rampant lions flanking a tree, within an oval panel, against a blue ground hung with garlands of green leaves and yellow flowers from tied yellow ribbon bows, height 22cm (minor glaze loss, chip to foot). A berettino maiolica syrup or wet drug jar, Deruta or Marchigiana, mid-17th century, the ovoid body inscribed 'A.D.LVPOLI' within a painted label against a ground of scrolling foliage centred by a star motif, with a straight spout and double scroll handle, on a circular foot, height 34cm (restored). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

An Italian maiolica syrup or wet drug jar, probably Venetian, late 16th century, painted in dark blue on a berettino ground with a label inscribed 'MOSTO.COTTO', above a figure of a female saint, perhaps St Lucia, flanked by the initials 'SM', against a ground of fruiting scrolling foliage, height 21cm (minor faults). A pair of Italian maiolica small berettino syrup or wet drug jars, mid-17th century, the bulbous bodies inscribed 'MEL:ROSA:S' and 'SY:ACETOS.DIAROD' within painted labels against a ground of flowers and foliage picked out in yellow and ochre, each with scattered birds, the second with insects too, height 20cm (faults and restoration). A pair of Italian maiolica small berettino albarelli or pill jars, Faenza, mid-18th century, both of waisted form, inscribed 'SEM:DI:IVSQV' and 'SEM:D:AMEOS' within painted labels against a ground of flowers and foliage picked out in yellow and ochre, each with scattered insects, the first with two cockerels too, height 14cm (minor chips). A pair of Italian maiolica albarelli, probably Savona or Florence, 18th century, of unusual squat waisted shape, painted in blue with vacant labels within foliate surrounds, height 15.5cm (one cracked). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

An Italian maiolica albarello, probably Savona, 18th century, of dumbbell shape, inscribed with a central label 'VNG.BIANCO', between floral and fruit garlands and foliate scrollwork, height 20cm (rim restored), together with a similar albarello, inscribed 'Vng.Citrinum', height 19.3cm (rim restored). An Italian maiolica wet drug jar, probably Montelupo, late 17th or 18th century, the ovoid body painted in blue with a vacant label against a ground of simple scrolling flowers and foliage between blue and ochre banding, a stylized sun beneath the strap handle, an angled spout beneath the neck rim, height 31cm (some faults). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

An Italian maiolica albarello, Sicily, early 18th century, of waisted form, painted in blue with a floral pattern reserved with panels of sponged or mottled decoration, height 24.3cm (cracked), together with a tin-glazed earthenware jar painted in blue with four simple horizontal bands, one with pendant stylized flowerheads, height 17.5cm (chips). Note: a similar albarello was sold by Woolley & Wallis, 28th February 2017, Lot 138. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

A small maiolica albarello, probably Sicilian, early 18th century, the gently waisted cylindrical body painted in blue with scrolling foliage above a green band, the shoulders and neck with blue banded and geometric decoration, height 17cm, together with another albarello with floral banded decoration in ochre and green, height 18.5cm (minor faults). An Italian maiolica syrup jar, Savona, 18th century, the rounded body inscribed in cursive manganese script between bands of blue scrolling foliage, with angled straight spout and grooved strap handle, height 17.5cm (spout repaired, minor fritting). An Italian maiolica albarello, probably Deruta, 17th/18th century, of dumbbell shape, polychrome painted with a laurel wreath centred by a vacant/blank label surmounted by a cross against a yellow ground, height 16cm (minor faults), together with a later albarello painted in blue with a depiction of Margaret of Cortona within a yellow frame, height 19.5cm (cracked), and a Dutch style jar and cover (cover extensively glued). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

An Hispano Moresque (Narbonne) maiolica albarello, probably 17th century, of waisted cylindrical form, painted in pale lustre against a cream ground with an inscribed shield surrounded by scrolling tendrils, opposing two geometric panels of stylized leaves, height 28cm (minor faults). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.

A Spanish faience monastic albarello, Talavera, late 17th/18th century, of waisted form, painted in blue with a Catholic armorial surmounted by an Abbot's hat hung with six tassels to each side, above a label inscribed 'PVM.LOM', height 25.3cm (restored). Note: this armorial relates to the Order of Our Lady of Mercy. A similar example is illustrated by Rudolf E.A. Drey 'Apothecary Jars', page 145, pl. 74b.
