A Sicilian maiolica bombola, Caltagirone, 18th century, the rounded body painted with a pair of crowned rampant lions flanking a tree, within an oval panel, against a blue ground hung with garlands of green leaves and yellow flowers from tied yellow ribbon bows, height 22cm (minor glaze loss, chip to foot). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.
