An Italian maiolica cylindrical storage or drug jar, Calabrian, 17th century, painted in the Venetian manner with opposing portrait busts within oval ochre ground frames flanked by flowers and foliage, height 30.5cm (restored). Note: a similar example sold at Christie's 'Italian Ceramic Art 1400-1900', 22nd April 2008, Lot 53. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.
