An Italian maiolica wet drug jar, probably Deruta, 17th century, the ovoid body painted to the front in blue and yellow with grotesques, winged beasts and fauns surrounding a label inscribed 'S.D.ASSENZO', the back painted in blue with leaves surrounding a label inscribed 'S.D.ASSEZO', with bifurcated handle and short spout, height 24.5cm (handle restored). Note: an albarello with similar decoration to this wet drug jar was sold at Sotheby's, 14th December 2004, Lot 2. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.
