A late 17th century silver medal by Jan Smeltzing commemorating the beheading of the Duke of Monmouth 1685, obverse with head of the duke looking right, reverse with his severed head on the ground with fountains of blood spouting from his open mouth, Eimer 280, diameter 38mm, weight 29.6g (extremely fine with deep old cabinet tone and underlying lustrous fields), with original approval invoice from B.A. Seaby Ltd, dated 8th May 1946, Item 1, for £2-2s. Provenance: the collection of the late Robert Pearce of Normanton Hall, Normanton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
