A late 17th century silver medal by George Bower commemorating the murder of Sir Edmundbury Godfrey 1678, obverse with bust facing right being strangled with his own cravat by two hands, reverse with conjoined heads of the Pope and the Devil forming one face, edge detailed, Eimer 259, diameter 38mm, weight 26.6g (extremely fine with old cabinet tone and lustrous fields). Provenance: the collection of the late Robert Pearce of Normanton Hall, Normanton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
