An 18th century silver medal by John Milton commemorating the murder of Sir Edmundbury Godfrey 1678, obverse with bust facing right being strangled with his own cravat by two hands, reverse with prostrate figure being strangled by a man leaning over him, blessed by an onlooking figure holding a papal bull or decree, edge detailed, Eimer 257, diameter 38mm, weight 29.8g, (extremely fine with cabinet tone). Provenance: the collection of the late Robert Pearce of Normanton Hall, Normanton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
