A rare mid-17th century silver Charles II coronation medal variation 1661 by Thomas Rawlins, obverse with crowned bust facing left with Garter collar and inscription 'Carolus II DG Mag Bri Fra et Hi Rex Cor', signed 'R' below bust, reverse with Charles as a shepherd tending three flocks of sheep, representing the three kingdoms, edge detailed 'Coronato pastore ovat ovile' (the fold rejoices in the crowned shepherd), Eimer 220 but a variant, diameter 34mm, weight 22.6g (near extremely fine with even deep old cabinet tone, some scratches to field to front of portrait). Provenance: the collection of the late Robert Pearce of Normanton Hall, Normanton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
