First edition, 8vo (183 x 121mm.) Frontispiece. (Frontispiece damp-stained and detached, spotting to preliminaries, damp-staining to last leaves.) Original green cloth, floral gilt to covers and spine (lightly rubbed). Note: scarce. The book that made William Robinson's reputation. Provenance: Will Ingwersen, alpine specialist (bookplates to front pastedown and front-free endpaper); Peter Herbert, late owner of Gravetye Manor (bookplate recto front-free endpaper).
