First edition, 8vo (185 x 117mm.) Frontispiece, 32pp. publisher's advertisements to rear. (Spotting to preliminaries, damp-stain to margin of frontispiece, occasional corner crease.) Original green cloth, floral gilt to covers and spine (lightly bumped extremities). Note: scarce. The book that made William Robinson's reputation. Provenance: Kate Brooks (pencil inscribed to front-free endpaper); Peter Herbert, late owner of Gravetye Manor (bookplate to front pastedown).
