An English Delft wet drug jar, London, circa 1740, the bulbous body inscribed in blue '.S:ZIͶ?ZIBER.' within a shaped cartouche with a basket of fruit flanked by birds above a winged cherub's head, with strapwork handle on a trumpet shaped foot, height 16.3cm (some restoration). Provenance: Garner Collection. Ex-Lot 260, Sotheby's, 21st February 1989. Note: the label on this jar denotes Syrup of Ginger. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.
