A near pair of Chinese famille rose ruby ground export porcelain plates, Yongzheng period, each painted with an open scroll panel depicting a cockerel perched on a mound beside a dragonfly and peonies, above a smaller scroll panel of bird and flowers flanked by a pair of white chrysanthemum flowerheads, all reserved against a ruby-pink ground, diameter 22.1cm and 22.4cm (one with hairline and minor rim repair). Note: a similarly designed plate is illustrated by David Howard and John Ayers in 'Masterpieces of Chinese Export Porcelain from the Mottahedeh Collection in the Virginia Museum', 1980, page 41, plate 130.
