A George III ebonized floor standing regulator, of unusually small size, the brass and steel mechanism with deadbeat escapement and maintaining power, the 8 inch 'split dials' design silvered brass circular dial with larger outer seconds ring framing subsidiary hours and minutes, inscribed 'Wright, London', the ebonized case with moulded arch pediment above a glazed panel to trunk door, on a panelled base and plinth, height approx 165.5cm, with brass cased weight and wood rod pendulum with heavy brass bob (some signs of alteration to the dial fixing and some faults). Provenance: from the Ullyett Collection, the case interior bearing a brass plaque inscribed 'Ullyett Collection 1022'. Note: this clock is illustrated and discussed by Ullyett in his book 'In Quest of Clocks', Rockliff 1950, page 195 and plates LXXII and LXXIII. Thomas Wright was made Free of the Clockmakers Company in 1770. He was clockmaker to the King and supplied the movement to the famous Blue John clock with ormolu mounts by Matthew Boulton in Buckingham Palace. He died in 1792 during a visit to Birmingham.
