Davison, 1792. 4to (243 x 152mm.) 10 engraved plates. (Spotting to margins, marginal damp-stain to frontispiece.) Contemporary black straight-grain morocco, fillet borders, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Ann Allenby (name inscribed to initial blank). - And a further four eighteenth century volumes (including 'The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: Newly Translated out of the Original Tongues' published by James Watson, 1719, 12mo, and 'The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments' [Canne's Bible], published by Alexander Kincaid, 1766, 8vo, and 'The New Testament' published by John Baskett, 1742, 8vo) (5).

Near contemporary carved wooden oak boards with foliate tendrils around a raised oval in the centre with gilt titling (rubbed corners). - And a further four leather-bound Bibles (including 'The Holy Bible… illustrated…by Robert Dudley', 1862, 4to) (5).

BUNYAN, John. The Pilgrim's Progress, from This World to that Which is to Come… with Explanatory Notes by W. Mason. London: Thomas Kelly & Co., [circa 1820.] New edition, 8vo (242 x 150mm.) Hand-coloured portrait frontispiece, 41 hand-coloured plates, folding plan. (Toning, marginal spotting, browning, corner loss to p.70 and plate at p.154, tear to p.246, front and rear blanks replaced.) Later brown half morocco over contemporary buckram-covered boards, purple morocco lettering piece to the spine (endpapers replaced, stain to the covers). - And a further two bound volumes by John Bunyan (including the Elstow edition of 'The Pilgrim's Progress', 1881, 8vo) (3).

BINDINGS. The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: Translated out of the Original Tongues. Oxford: the University Press, 1848. 8vo (164 x 98mm.) (Toning.) Contemporary green velvet-covered boards, bronze plate to upper cover with bronze boss, clasp and edges, g.e. (minor wear to spine ends, loosening of upper cover). Provenance: Lucy Hurst (gift inscribed to on the front-free endpaper). - And a further five religious volumes bound in velvet, including another Bible and four copies of 'The Book of Common Prayer' [1849-1857] (6).

BINDINGS. - W.H. BARTLETT. Footsteps of Our Lord and His Apostles in Syria, Greece and Italy. London: Bell and Daldy, 1869. Sixth edition, (216 x 155mm.) 23 steel-engraved plates, including title. (Lacking initial blank, spotting to most plates, several heavily.) Contemporary morocco-backed imitation tortoise-shell boards with gilt vignette to upper cover, g.e. - And a further thirteen leather-bound volumes (including a religious work in Russian, velvet bound with gilt metal upper cover, [circa 1885], 8vo) (12).

BREVIARY, in Latin. [Manuscript leaf possibly from a Breviary. N.p: but Italy: N.d: but 15th century.] 1 paper leaf (200 x 153mm.) 24 lines recto and verso in double-columns of black and red ink with four double-line red, green and blue initials heightened with gold and verso 3 double-line initials in red, blue and green, also heightened with gold. (Faint spotting to upper margin.) Contained within a modern mount displaying recto only (minor soiling). Provenance: 'Folio Society' (label verso the mount, stock number 'MS 2094'. - And a further three disbound leaves (including a leaf from 'Biblia latina mit postilla litteralis von Nicolaus de Lyra', published in Strasbourg by Johannes Gruninger in 1492, loose-leaf, and a leaf from André Thevet's 'Cosmographie Universelle', 1575, with a woodcut illustration of Erasmus, loose-leaf) (4).

MANUSCRIPT FRAGMENTS. [Manuscript leaf possibly from a breviary. N.p: n.d. but 14th century.] 1 parchment leaf (174 x 108mm.) 28 lines recto and verso in single column of black ink with a seven-line historiated vignette in blue, red, green, gold and grey beside an initial in ochre and gold, and recto another seven-line historiated vignette in blue, red, white, grey and gold beside an initial in ochre and gold. (Browning to margins.) Loose-leaf. - And a further eight leaves (including a fragment of Christian letters written on papyrus, [circa 200-500 A.D.], a manuscript leaf [13th century] in brown ink from part of 'Ecclesiaticus' with three initials issuing long scrolling bars in red and blue in the manner of William de Brailles, a further manuscript parchment leaf, possibly Pslam 41 and from a Breviary, [14th century] with single-line initials heightened in red, blue and gold, and also a bound volume of 18 leaves [circa 1540.]) (9).

MANUSCRIPT. Des Bußenden David's Sieben Psalmen. [N.p: circa 1800.] 8vo (207 x 133mm.) Title with decorative border, 35pp. of hand-written text in German, in Gothic style, being seven Psalms of David, numbers VI, XXXI, XXXVII, L, CI, CXXIX and CXLII, with 2 hand-drawn illustrations in the text. (Toning.) Contemporary Spanish calf (wear to spine, some loss to lower cover). Note: these are the 'Penitential Psalms'. - And a further seven volumes (including a hand-written Old Testament in Latin, 1852-1854, and a hand-written Bible in Arabic, [circa 1860], and four religious works in Braille (8).

BIBLE, In English. The Holy Scriptures of the Olde and Newe Testamente; with the Apocripha Faithfully Translated from the Hebrue and Greke by Myles Coverdale Sometime Lord Bishop of Exeter. London: Samuel Bagster, [1847]. Second modern edition, 4to (255 x 194mm.) Engraved frontispiece of Coverdale, facsimile title and text of the Coverdale Bible of 1536. (Toning, spotting to margins of frontispiece.) Original black cloth (rebacked, endpapers replaced, rubbing). Provenance: Grimsby Public Library (stamp to frontispiece, titles and last leaf). - And a further nineteen volumes relating to theology (including another facsimile volume, 'The New Testament Translated by William Tyndale 1534', 1938, 4to, and 'Codex Fuldensis' edited by E.
