Note: originally published in instalments in the 'Warehouseman & Drapers' Journal'.

CROXALL, Samuel (translator). Fables of Esop and Others, translated into English with Instructive Applications, and a Print Before Each Fable. Gainsborough: for H. Mozley, 1810. (Occasional later hand-colouring to plates, front and rear blanks replaced.) 20th century maroon morocco, gilt lettering to spine (endpapers replaced).

MANUSCRIPT. [A hand-written book of references by Monsieur Maurice Lommer, pest controller. N.p: 1899-1938.] 340pp. manuscript, 8vo (186 x 121mm.) Unnumbered pages hand-written on one side of the leaf only in German, French and Italian and in various different hands by the proprietors of various European hotels and sanatoria, all being references and favourable recommendations for Monsieur Lommer and his expertise at pest-control and appreciation of the work he has undertaken for them, including many official stamps of these establishments, includes a small photo of Monsieur Lommer himself on the front-free endpaper, and his own personal stamp. (Some browning.) Contemporary maroon morocco (some wear to spine ends, rubbing). Note: a book of references spanning nearly the whole first half of the 20th century for the itinerant yet proud and professional Monsieur Lommer who, born in Geneva, travels across various European cities cleansing hotels of 'caffards' (cockroaches), before moving on with his book of references which serves as an entrée and, presumably, a good bed for the night. Finally, in 1939 he lands up back in Geneva, extinguishing the caffards of his home city.

MANUSCRIPT. [A hand-written series of letters by the Rev. Samuel Cooper. N.p: n.d. but circa 1770.] 53pp. manuscript, 8vo (163 x 95mm.) Unnumbered pages relating to the fictional life story of a sailor in a series of letters to an unknown correspondent, followed by a series of extracts on religious matters in the same hand, several blank leaves to rear. (Damp-staining throughout, hand-written notes in Latin to front-free endpaper.) Contemporary morocco-backed paper-covered boards (front cover detached, loss to spine). Note: a series of letters forming a parable of religious salvation as the author explains how after being miraculously saved at sea, he embraced God and his 'wicked life' was redeemed. In a similar vein of overcoming trials and tribulations, he finally marries the woman who would provide him everlasting happiness. Provenance: Oswald Greenway Knapp (bookplate to the front pastedown).
