SLEIGH, John. A History of the Ancient Parish of Leek, in Staffordshire. Leek & London: 1862. 8vo but mounted on folio leaves (375 x 275mm.) Approximately 110 mounted plates, illustrations and genealogies, the majority extra-illustrations. (Occasional spotting or browning.) Near contemporary brown morocco gilt, by Tout, the upper cover with inset metal armorial, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third compartments, the others blank, wide gilt turn-ins, t.e.g. (slightly soiled, spine faded). Provenance: Will. S. Brough (armorial bookplate to front pastedown; binding). Note: the extra-illustrations include an engraving circa 1680-1699 by Robert White titled 'The Illustrious and Most Renowned Princesse Elizabeth, late Queene of England' and other later engravings, lithographs, colour plates and mezzotints, 5 supplied from the second edition of this work, 2 printed silk play bills (loosely inserted) and an original pen and ink cartoon. - And a second edition of the same work (2).
