Contemporary blue calf, by Clyde, the spines gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettering pieces in the second and fourth compartments, the others with repeat decoration in gilt, gilt turn-ins (spines slightly rubbed). Provenance: Frederick Perkins (armorial bookplate).

(Some spotting and browning, mostly to plates.) Modern half-calf over contemporary marbled boards (minor scuffs). Note: the title vignette has Cuttle's hook on his left hand, and 'Capatin' on final line of p.324.

Portrait frontispiece, 38 plates by 'Phiz' [H.K. Browne]. (Lacking half-title, some spotting and browning, heavy to title-page and plates, title-page somewhat creased, 3 plates torn and repaired, 1 plate torn with loss to margin, 1 other plate torn with substantial loss.) Modern half-calf over contemporary marbled boards (some scuffing). Note: p.123 has 'visiter' instead of 'sister'.

Contemporary brown calf, spines gilt in six compartments, lettering pieces in the second and third compartments, the others with repeat decoration in gilt (slightly rubbed and scuffed). Provenance: Blanche Chilton (signatures to preliminary blanks).

Numerous wood-engraved illustrations. (Some spotting.) Contemporary brown half-morocco, by F. Bedford, the spines gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with repeat decoration in gilt (minor scuffs to spines).

Engraved double-page map, 29 plates. (Map and plates spotted, some offsetting.) Late 19th Century half-calf, spine gilt in six compartments with raised bands, morocco lettering piece to the second compartment, the others with repeat decoration in gilt (extremities slightly scuffed, spine slightly rubbed and darkened).

Hand-coloured frontispiece, additional decorative title, 11 plates (1 hand-coloured), folding plan hand-coloured in outline, genealogical table. (Some spotting, heavier to plates, some soiling.) Original morocco-backed boards (extremities somewhat scuffed and rubbed, spine faded). Lowndes R2159. Note: appears to be a large paper copy.

THOROTON, Robert. The Antiquities of Nottinghamshire. London: printed by Robert White, for Henry Mortlock, 1677. First edition, folio (340 x 219mm.) Title printed in red and black, engraved folding map, 16 plates (most folding or double-page), 8 plates of coats of arms on 4 leaves at rear, engraved illustrations. (Some light browning and soiling, folding plate of Newarke Church torn and repaired.) Late 18th Century diced calf gilt (extremities slightly scuffed, upper joint split and nearly detached, lower joint repaired).

CARTWRIGHT, Edmund. The Parochial Topography of the Rape of Bramber in the Western Division of the County of Sussex. London: 1830. Vol. II, part II only, folio (381 x 265mm.) 5 maps (2 folding), 24 plates (2 hand-coloured). (Occasional spotting or light browning.) Contemporary boards (soiled and slightly scuffed). Note: vol. I and vol. II part I were published in 1815 and 1819 respectively by James Dallaway, but are scarce due to a fire at the printer's premises which destroyed the majority of the copies.

PYNE, William Henry, and others. Picturesque Groups for the Embellishment of Landscape. London: 1845. 2 vols. in one, folio (352 x 284mm.) 122 aquatint plates by J. Hill. (Some browning and damp-staining, occasional old creasing.) Contemporary morocco-backed cloth (extremities somewhat scuffed).

SLEIGH, John. A History of the Ancient Parish of Leek, in Staffordshire. Leek & London: 1862. 8vo but mounted on folio leaves (375 x 275mm.) Approximately 110 mounted plates, illustrations and genealogies, the majority extra-illustrations. (Occasional spotting or browning.) Near contemporary brown morocco gilt, by Tout, the upper cover with inset metal armorial, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third compartments, the others blank, wide gilt turn-ins, t.e.g. (slightly soiled, spine faded). Provenance: Will. S. Brough (armorial bookplate to front pastedown; binding). Note: the extra-illustrations include an engraving circa 1680-1699 by Robert White titled 'The Illustrious and Most Renowned Princesse Elizabeth, late Queene of England' and other later engravings, lithographs, colour plates and mezzotints, 5 supplied from the second edition of this work, 2 printed silk play bills (loosely inserted) and an original pen and ink cartoon. - And a second edition of the same work (2).
