LOT 1088
A Laco German Military oversized B-Uhr pilot's observation watch, Ref. 127-560B, circa 1941-45, the signed and jewelled Durowe movement numbered '02811', the black dial with luminous Arabic numerals, triangle marker at 12 and centre seconds, the case side detailed 'FL 23883', the snap case back interior detailed 'H 2811' and 'Lacher & Co Pforzheim', the case back detailed 'H 2811', case diameter 5.5cm, on a later leather strap. Note: from 1940 the German Air Force or Luftwaffe commissioned watches for their pilots from five watchmakers, four in Germany from A. Lange & Sohne, Laco, Stowa and Wempe, and one from Swiss makers IWC. All were produced to strict specification criteria, including mechanical movement with centre seconds, 55mm case diameters and large 'onion' shaped crowns. They were fitted with extra long leather straps for wear over a flight jacket and the movements were surrounded by an iron core, making the watch anti-magnetic. These watches became known as B-Uhren style, abbreviated from Beobachtungs-Uhren, or 'Observation watches'.
