LOT 1091
A mid-18th century gilt brass and tortoiseshell pair cased gentleman's pocket watch, the keywind gilt fusee movement with verge escapement and pierced and engraved balance cock, the backplate signed 'Richd Style London 759', the white enamelled dial with black Roman hour and outer Arabic minute numerals, case diameter 4cm, the tortoiseshell mounted outer case with leaf decoration within studwork border, outer case diameter 4.6cm. Note: Richard Style is a recorded London watchmaker, apprenticed in 1742 and made free of the Clockmakers' Company 1750-1794, working from his Cheapside address, succeeding his uncle Nathaniel Style, who retired in 1773.
