A group of three rare South Africa Reserve Bank banknote progressive die proof engraver's test strikes for one rand notes circa 1973-1984, partial full-plate colour trials in dark red/brown with portrait vignette of Jan van Riebeeck within ornamental frame, values to two opposing corners, together with a die proof engraver's test strike vignette of Jan van Riebeeck, titled to lower quarter 'Van Riebeeck' below 'Bradbury Wilkinson & Co Ld, New Malden, Surrey, England' and numbered '279', all on oversized paper/card with near full-plate margins (all extremely fine). Provenance: from the personal archive of the late Alan Dow, master banknote engraver to Bradbury Wilkinson & Co and the Bank of England.
