Two Banco Central de Costa Rica partial banknote die proof engraver's test strikes for the obverse of a one thousand colones note, circa 1997-1999, in red as on issued notes with portrait vignette of Tomás Soley Güell to left side, values to opposing corners, on oversized paper/card, together with nine die proof engraver's test strike portrait vignettes of Tomás Soley Güell, comprising six in red and three in brown/black, all on oversized paper/card, and another vignette cut-out of the same portrait in red (all extremely fine, some minor handling marks). Provenance: from the personal archive of the late Alan Dow, master banknote engraver to Bradbury Wilkinson & Co and the Bank of England.
