MANUSCRIPT. – Thomas BEALE and Thomas Beale COOPER. [A hand-written book of cures and remedies. N.p.: 1764-1796.] 76pp., manuscript, 8vo (181 x 116mm.) 38 leaves mostly in the legible hand of Thomas Beale for numerous cures for various maladies, continued at rear in the legible hand of his nephew, Thomas Beale Cooper, 36pp. to the rear blank. (Toning, last text leaf torn and detached.) Contemporary vellum (slight discolouring). Note: contains tinctures for the ague, consumption, dropsy, fever, measles, hiccups, an inflamed eye, ‘a violent bleeding of the nose’, and others. Provenance: Thomas Beale, Vicar of Bengeworth (ink name and stamp to front pastedown); Oswald Greenway Knapp (bookplate to front-free endpaper).
