Henry George Moon - Half Length Portrait of William Robinson, late 19th century charcoal with pencil, 12.5cm x 13.5cm, within a gilt frame. Note: William Robinson invited Henry Moon to stay and paint the grounds at Gravetye in the Summer of 1891; the resulting works were exhibited at Gooden's gallery, London in November 1892. Moon returned to paint at Gravetye in 1895 and it is likely this sketch was executed during one of those visits. Literature: Robinson, W., 'Gravetye Manor: Or, Twenty Years' Work Round an Old Manor House' (J. Murray, 1911) p.69; Wolschke-Bulmahn, Joachim, 'Nature and Ideology: Nature and Garden Design in the Twentieth Century' (Washington, DC: Dumbarton Oaks, 1997).
