LOT 1503
A rare Mintons teapot and cover, designed by Henry Cole under the pseudonym Felix Summerley's Art Manufacturers, dated 1846, the cream glazed body with simple gilt line detail, the spout with lion head, the handle with goat head terminal and the cover with ram's head finial, iron red printed mark to base, height 15cm (stained and crazed). Note: the design of this teapot and accompanying teaset won the silver medal from the Society of Arts in 1846. The cups and saucers became a staple design for the Minton factory, but the teapot would appear to have been produced in limited numbers. Another example of the teapot is illustrated by Paul Atterbury and Maureen Batkin in 'The Dictionary of Minton', p.260.
