LOT 1270
A late 17th/early 18th century marquetry inlaid walnut longcase clock, the eight day movement striking on a bell via an internal countwheel, the 12-inch square brass dial with silvered chapter ring, inscribed 'WM Speakman Junr, Old Street London', framing a matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding holes, date aperture and oval panel, inscribed 'Richard Vincent', all cornered with cast and pierced putto and orb spandrels, the case with all-over floral marquetry including flowers, birds and urn, the hood with caddy top and three brass finials above a glazed door and columns, inlaid with flowers, the rectangular trunk door with glazed circular lenticle and cross grain mouldings, on a plinth base, height 230cm, with pendulum and two weights (restoration). Note: William Speakman (II) is a recorded London clockmaker, apprenticed to his father William Speakman (I) in 1688 and working from his Old Street address.
