LOT 1264
A George III Scottish mahogany bracket clock with eight day twin fusee movement striking hours on a bell, the backplate inscribed 'Tho. Reid Edinburgh', the 8-inch brass breakfront dial with subsidiary date dial, silvered chapter ring and silvered boss to the arch, inscribed 'Tho. Reid Edinburgh', the case with moulded arch pediment and brass carrying handle, above brass pineapple finials and foliate corner columns, glazed front, back and sides, on a moulded plinth base and brass bracket feet, height 47cm, with pendulum, case key and winding key (restoration). Note: Thomas Reid is a recorded Edinburgh clockmaker. Born in 1746, he apprenticed to his cousin James Cowan of Edinburgh in 1762, before leaving to work in London circa 1770 and back to Edinburgh in 1781, when he succeeded James Cowan.
