LOT 1264
A George III Lancastrian oak longcase clock with mahogany and inlaid decoration, the eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch square brass dial with engraved centre, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, the chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, inscribed 'P. Clare Manchester', the hood with moulded pediment above a glazed door and turned columns, the crossbanded trunk door and base with inlaid star motif, flanked by a pair of mahogany corner columns, on a plinth base, height 199cm, (restoration), with pendulum, two weights and winder. Note: Peter Clare(I) is a recorded clockmaker working at Deansgate Manchester from 1764. He was succeeded by his son Peter (II).
