A George V silver salver with shaped rim, the centre with engraved presentation inscription 'Presented to W. P Harper, Esq., by the Worcestershire F.A. Council in Commemoration of his Appointment as Referee for the English F.A. Cup Final Tie at Wembley Stadium April 1932', Birmingham 1931 by B & W Ltd, weight 754g, width 30.4cm. Note: W.P. Harper was a football referee during the 1920s and 1930s before entering administration and working with and for the England Football Association. Harper officiated some of the biggest matches of the time, most notably the 1932 FA Cup Final between Newcastle United and Arsenal. Newcastle won the match 2-1 following a disputed goal, in what became known as the 'Over the Line' final. This match proved to be a catalyst for increased media attention and scrutiny towards refereeing decisions.
