LOT 1745
A superb cut and engraved large glass vase by William Fritsche, signed, late 19th/early 20th century, the bulbous body intricately copper wheel engraved and cut with urns of fruit flanked by floral cornucopia joined with laurel garlands above a wide band of trellis, the gently flared trumpet neck with diamond cut collar beneath hobnails, height 40cm. Note: in his book 'British Glass 1800-1914', Charles Hajdamach refers to Fritsche as |...the greatest of the Bohemian engravers working in England or America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century|. He arrived in 1868 in Stourbridge and spent his entire working life at Thomas Webb's glassworks.
