A rare early 19th century 16-bore double-barrelled percussion sporting gun by Joseph Manton, serial number '8005', with re-browned barrels, barrel length 81cm, inscribed to top rib 'Joseph Manton, Davies Street, Berkeley Square, London, Invenit et fecit by His Majesty's patent', with serpent engraved hammers and tang, converted pellet-locks to cap-locks with gravitating stops, walnut half-stock with chequered pad, the wrist escutcheon bearing the arms of the Earl of Yarborough, and brass-tipped ramrod, together with typed research material compiled by the current owner. Provenance: purchased by the current owner from Geoff Walker, 'The Flintlock Collection', who noted prior ownership by the Earl of Yarborough, Sir Richard Wallace, the Greener Collection and Field Marshal Sir Francis Festing.
