A Japanese cloisonné vase by Hayashi Kodenji, Meiji period, the stout ovoid body decorated in silver and gold wire with a sparrow flying over chrysanthemums on a dark blue ground between a silver rim and footrim, wire inlaid lozenge shaped maker's mark and stamped mark to footrim, height 6.4cm. Note: Hayashi Kodenji (1831-1915) was one of the most influential cloisonné makers of his time. He set up an independent workshop in Nagoya in 1862 and remained at the forefront of cloisonné manufacture in the Nagoya region throughout his career.
