ETCHINGS. - Paul SANDBY and M. CHATELAIN. A Collection of Landskips, and Figures, &c., on Twenty-Nine Copper-Plates… They merit a Place in the Cabinets of the Curious, and are Useful Studies to those who would draw Landskips with Taste and Effect. London: Robert Sayer, 1773. Folio, (374 x 248mm.) Letterpress title, 31 engraved plates on 29 sheets, 18 by Paul Sandby and 13 by Chatelain. (All of the Chatelain are heavily damp-stained, 6 of the Sandby's are heavily damp-stained, 3 of the remaining Sandby's have small paper-repairs to insect damage in the margins; they and the rest also have minor soiling to margins, 6 of those Sandby's have pencil annotation to the lower margin.) Disbound. Note: rare. Sandby's etchings were to illustrate Allan Ramsey's pastoral comedy 'The Gentle Shepherd', possibly as a memorial to him after his death in 1758.
