BINDING. - George CRUIKSHANK (illustrator) and Henry MAYHEW. 1851: or, The Adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Sandboys and Family, who came up to London to 'Enjoy Themselves' and see the Great Exhibition. London: David Bogue, [1851.] First edition in book form, 8vo (217 x 136mm.) Title, 10 etched plates by Cruikshank, 9 folding, original cloth covers bound-in at rear. (Toning, occasional light spotting.) Late 19th century Spanish calf bound by Tout, triple ruled borders with gilt corner-pieces, ochre and brown morocco lettering pieces to the second and third compartments of the spine, foliate motif within gilt tendrils to the rest, elaborate gilt turn-ins, t.e.g. (light rubbing). Provenance: Harry McCalmont (bookplate to the front pastedown); Harry Nathan (bookplate to the front-free endpaper).
