LOT 1151
A George III mahogany longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with matt centre, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, framed by a chapter ring with Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes, beneath a boss inscribed 'Petr Nichols Newport', the hood with pagoda top and three brass ball and spire finials, glazed arch door and brass stop fluted columns, the trunk with arched door, on a panelled base and bracket feet, height 224cm, with pendulum and two brass cased weights. Note: Peter Nichols is recorded as a clockmaker working in Newport (Isle of Wight?) circa 1770.
