LOT 1119
A George III Scottish ebonized bracket clock with brass four pillar eight day twin fusee movement striking hours on a bell, the backplate with foliate engraved decoration, the brass breakarch dial with silvered strike/silent indicator to arch above a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes, the floral engraved silvered centre with pierced recessed panel, inscribed 'Laure Dalgleish, Edinburgh', above date aperture, all cornered with pierced gilt scroll spandrels, the case with bell top, brass carry handle and four pine cone finials above glazed front and back doors, each with pierced fret panels, the sides with pierced ebonized fret panels, on a moulded rectangular plinth base with brass bracket feet, height 54.5cm, with pendulum. Note: Laurence Dalgleish is recorded in 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' by Brian Loomes as the son of John Dalgleish, an Edinburgh clockmaker, made free in 1771 and retired in 1808.
