A large pair of English Delft chargers, Lambeth, circa 1780, painted in blue with a chinoiserie landscape depicting bamboo before a fence, within a geometric border, diameter 34.8cm and 35.5cm (minor chips). Note: a similarly decorated polychrome example is illustrated by Michael Archer 'Delftware The Tin-Glazed Earthenware of the British Isles', page 201, B.186. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.
