Phyllis Dawson - a finely engraved woodcut printing block depicting two seahorses and fish swimming amongst seaweed and coral, 15.5cm x 10cm, together with a similar printing block by the same hand, finely worked with a frog and fish, 18cm x 11.5cm. Note: Phyllis Dawson (1903-1993) was an illustrator and wood engraver. Born in London, she went on to study at Clapham School of Art with William Washington, then at Canterbury School of Art under John Austen. Many of her woodcuts depict her garden in Barham or the interior of the antique shop where she lived in Palace Street, Canterbury, as well as the local environs.
