A Burmese parabaik (folding book), late 19th century, painted in watercolour and gouache on card, the entire book comprising fifty-four individual leaves, painted with two, four or six-fold scenes from a royal tournament or festival, including paddy field ploughing, procession of elephants and carts drawn by oxen, polo players, spear throwing, horsemanship contests, royalty, tiger and elephants, elephant training enclosure, various other elephant scenes, cock fighting and processional scene with African attendants, each scene with yellow border and black titles, the end papers/covers painted as a pair of doors, 41cm x 17.9cm when closed.
