LOT 1250
A George III brass inlaid mahogany bracket clock, the eight day twin fusee movement striking on a bell with pull repeat mechanism, the backplate inscribed 'Dwerrihouse, Carter & Son, Berkeley Square', the similarly signed silvered brass arched dial with subsidiary seconds and 'strike/not strike' dials to arch above Roman hour numerals, the case with moulded arch pediment surmounted by a brass carry handle above brass ball finials, glazed door and stop-fluted cut-cornered columns, the sides with pierced gilt scale fret panels, on a moulded rectangular plinth and brass ball feet, height 44.7cm, with pendulum, winding key, case key and related paperwork. Note: Dwerrihouse, Carter & Son are recorded working in London between 1808 and 1815. Provenance: presented by King George III to one of his secretaries, named Whale, and later sold by his great grandson through Lories Ltd Birmingham to Miss Norah Giles for £35 on May 19th 1921.
