HAMILTON, Patrick. Twopence Coloured. Boston: Little, Brown, and Co., 1928. First American edition, inscribed in ink by the author Patrick Hamilton to the front free endpaper, 8vo (192 x 126mm.) (Toning to margins, corner crease to p.237) Original black cloth (white marks to lower cover, lightly bumped to extremities). Note: the inscription by Hamilton reads 'To Lois, from her own private novelist, Patrick, 9th August, 1930'. Above the first page of the novel he has also written 'Dearest Lois - how are you getting on? I don't know whether you'll be at all interested but I must tell you that… [an arrow points to the first sentence of the novel 'Shortly before midnight…']. At the end of the novel Hamilton has then written 'Well - no more at the moment. See you Saturday - your loving Patrick. P.S. I adore you, darling. I adore you'. Lois was Hamilton's first wife. They married in 1930.
