A large Chinese wucai porcelain jar and cover, Transitional period, mid-17th century, the stout shouldered body painted with a scene of an artist standing at a bridge with three female attendants, horse and boy in a rocky landscape, the domed cover with boys and rocks, height 51cm (repaired neck). Provenance: R.H. Benson Collection sale, Christie's, 1st July 1924, Lot 183, purchased by Edward Grenfell, 1st Baron St. Just, then left to his only son Peter George Grenfell, 2nd Baron St. Just and thence by descent.
