Two mid/late 19th century needlework band samplers by Nelly Wade, au pensionnat à Montaigu, dated 1878, one exceptionally long example illustrating beadwork, woolwork, plushwork, lacework and a variety of other techniques, all joined and backed on to pink silk, 390cm x 17.5cm, the other similar example detailed C.M. Wade, 223cm x 17.5cm, together with a book, 'French Pronunciation Exemplified by English Phonetics', by Dr. W. Krisch, dedicated to Miss N. Wade by the author. Note: Nelly Wade, a Dudley brewer's daughter, became a professional teacher of the French language.
