LOT 1100
A Japanese shosen cloisonné enamel kidney shaped dish, probably from the studio of Namikawa Sosuke, Meiji period, the centre decorated with a grey dove and a white dove, signed and sealed with the mark of original artist, all against a graduated grey to pale peach ground, the reverse with dense grey ground brocade of scattered stylized flowers and scrolling tendrils, all beneath an applied copper rim, length 30cm. Note: Namikawa Sosuke (1847-1910) both reproduced historical paintings and worked closely with contemporary painters, most notably Watanabe Seitei (1851-1918), with whom he produced numerous examples similar to the above dish. See page 72 of 'Japanese Cloisonné' by Gregory Irvine for a similar illustrated example.
