The Vale-Royall of England or, The County Palatine of Chester Illustrated… wherein is contained a Geographical and Historical Description of that Famous County… published by Daniel King… also an Excellent Discourse of the Island of Man. London: printed by John Streater, 1656. First edition, folio (290 x 184mm.) Engraved additional decorative title, 11 plates of coat-of-arms, the folding plate of 'Hugh Lupus' in parliament, 2 double-page maps, 2 engraved illustrations; in the 'Island of Man' a double-page map, 2 plates (1 coat-of-arms), 1 full page illustration. (Some browning and finger-marks.) 19th century morocco by Henry Young & Sons, gilt borders with corner fleurons and blind-stamped decoration, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (some fading to spines and wear to spine ends). Note: often attributed to Daniel King - who printed the engravings. Provenance: unidentified armorial bookplate to the front pastedown; The West Horsley Place Collection.
