STEVENSON, Alan. Account of the Skerryvore Lighthouse, with Notes on the Illumination of Lighthouses. Edinburgh & London: Adam and Charles Black & Longman and Co., 1848. First edition, 4to (317 x 245mm.) Engraved frontispiece on India paper mounted, 34 engraved and aquatint plates (2 double-page, 1 folding). (Some browning and spotting, heavier to some plates, some marginal damp-staining to plates, tear without loss to plate XIII.) Original calf tooled in gilt, by Hayday, g.e. (rebacked with old spine laid-down, bumped, scuffed and rubbed, front-free endpaper detached and now loosely inserted). Provenance: Reverend Frederick Temple (illuminated vellum presentation leaf heightened in gilt bound-in); Frederick Exon (armorial bookplate to front pastedown); from the estate of the late Michael Gilkes FRCS, FRCOphth., FRGS.
