A Japanese Satsuma earthenware koro and cover by Shozan, Meiji period, of quatrefoil outline, the pierced cover and shoulder finely painted and gilt with kiku mon and butterflies, the sides with an oval panel painted with a procession of figures, opposing two overlapping panels, filled with figures and a landscape, all reserved against a ground of wisteria, peony and chrysanthemum, raised on four short gilt feet, black and gilt signature to base, height 6cm (minor bruise/hairline to inner rim of cover).
