A Japanese Satsuma earthenware jar and cover, Meiji period, the ovoid body thickly enamelled and gilt with four circular panels representing the seasons, within simulated brocade borders of mon and ruyi heads on a gosu blue ground, the cover with similarly decorated borders, beneath a knop finial with gilt Tokugawa mon, gilt signature and blue enamelled Shimazu mon to base, height 18.5cm.
