An early 19th Century French ormolu mantel clock with eight day movement striking hours and half hours on a bell via an outside countwheel, the white enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and inscribed 'V. La Croix A Paris', the case surmounted with a seated classical maiden sending a letter by dove to her shepherd lover depicted on a frieze below, flanked by a demi-lune table with inkwell, candlestick and bird, the oval base applied with a frieze of sheep and scrolls, on bun feet, height approx 51cm, together with pendulum and key. Note: this clock is almost certainly made by one of the La Croix family who had workshops in Rue St. Denis, Paris from the late 18th Century up until the early part of the 19th Century.
