A Japanese Satsuma earthenware box and cover by Tohakuen, Meiji period, of compressed circular form, the cover enamelled and gilt with a purple oni amongst polychrome vapours on a white dimpled ground, within a simulated polychrome brocade border, the interior of the cover and base finely painted and gilt with immortals and attendants, iron red mark to base, diameter approx 15.6cm.
