Photographs, Autographs and Ephemera

DIARY. A manuscript diary of 'William Gaisford's Passage to Australia' on the ship 'Commodore Perry', dated March 15th 1865-July 1st 1865, leaves 22.5cm x 18cm, bound in morocco-backed boards. Note: an interesting diary discussing on-board events and weather conditions.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A group of 4 silver print photographs of members of the Native American Sioux tribe, circa 1920, each 24cm x 19cm, previously mounted.

PHOTOGRAPHS, YACHTING. A collection of approximately 36 small and medium format photographs of yachts and yacht racing, circa 1930.

PHOTOGRAPHS. An album containing 47 cartes-de-visite photographs, including portraits of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, General von Moltke, Prince and Princess Louis of Hesse, Prince Christian of Schleswig Holstein, Mr Matthew Arnold and other topographical views and hand-coloured still lifes.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A papier-mâché album containing 25 postcard-size photographs of Japanese social history interest, including basket making, a shoe shop, a Japanese junk, a cloth shop and Matsushima Island.

PHOTOGRAPHS, HONG KONG. An album titled 'Picturesque Hong Kong', published by Ye Olde Printerie, Ltd, Hong Kong (205 x 280mm.), containing 26 photographs on 24 leaves by Denis H. Hazell, including photographs titled 'Hongkong from the Harbour', 'The Peak Tramway', 'Cenotaph and Hongkong Club', 'Land and Water', 'Wyndham Street (Flower Street)', 'Queen's Road Central', 'Typhoon Anchorage (Aberdeen)' and 'Chinese New Year Fair'.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A group of 8 photographs of China and Chinese punishments, including a hand-tinted photograph titled 'Execution of the Namoa Pirates which took place on the 11th May 1891 at Kowloon City, China'.

ROYAL PARDON. A typed document reducing the sentence of James Cyril Barnes at Wandsworth Prison by ten days, signed in ink by Queen Elizabeth II, possibly autopen, together with a small group of postal history.

NAVAL LOG. A manuscript log book, circa 1815-1816, by an unidentified hand while stationed at St Helens and Port Royal, Jamaica, detailing correspondence, signals, remarks and occurrences. Note: an interesting log, possibly by the Commander in Chief of Jamaica 1815-1816, covering the period directly after the War of 1812 against the United States of America, with a brief synopsis of all correspondence. Included in the entries for sent letters are the following: 20th January 1816 'Order to Captain Bligh of the Araxes to receive on board a proportion of the 5th West India Regiment and proceed to Nassau returning without delay with part of the 2nd West Indian Reg't to this anchorage...', 27th January 1816 'Letter to the Admiralty respecting Sir Alex'r Cochrane's appointing Officers to the vacancies occasioned by Captain Langford's death, thencely doing an injustice to me and the officers under my command on the Jamaica Station...', 10th February 1816 'Order to Captains Sykes and Jackson of the Variable & Carnation to receive on board each vessel a company of the 60th Regt with their baggage &c and proceed to Port Antonio with them', and 22nd February 1816 'Letter to Don Salvador de Moxo, Governor of Caraccas remonstrating with him on the severity of the treatment of the Spanish Authorities towards British Subjects'.

CHARITY FLAG DAYS. An album containing approximately 150 pin flags for various charity days, many captioned with dates circa 1915-1918, including YMCA Hut Day, Brighton Forget-me-not day, Hove War Hospital Supply Depot, Motor Ambulance Day, Bull Dog Club and French Red Cross.

AUTOGRAPHS. An albumen-print photograph of Queen Victoria, signed in black ink, 13.5cm x 9.5cm, within a carved gilt composition mount and contained within a stained wood frame, together with three further autographs, Ingrid Bergman, Anna Pavlova and Beniamino Gigli.

LEGAL DOCUMENTS. An Elizabeth I indenture on vellum between William Latton from Chilton and John & Edward Latton from Buckinghamshire, dated 1601, (lacking seals), 46.5cm x 54cm, together with another Elizabeth I legal document of related interest.

LEGAL DOCUMENTS. A James I indenture on vellum between Anthony Lingwood and his wife from Badingham in Suffolk, dated 1622, hung with wax seals, 34cm x 50cm, together with a collection of mostly 17th century legal documents, including a James I will by Marrian Hoath of Ipswich with wax seal, a Charles II indenture between Thomas Pope of Sternfield, Suffolk, and John Bobbit of Glemham, and a James II indenture between Robert Gove Junior and Senior of Ipswich.

LEGAL DOCUMENTS. A collection of legal documents, on paper and vellum, circa 1735-1954, the majority relating to Bungay Trinity Church, the Rectory and Thomas Collyer in the Parish of Gislingham, a George III indenture between Rev Peter Forster and Rev Thomas Herring and 'A Valuation of all the Lands Houses and Buildings in the Parish of Gislingham in the County of Suffolk, for a new assessment to the poor rates', dated 1838.

LEGAL DOCUMENTS. A George II indenture on vellum between Obadiah Lane from Longton, Staffordshire, William Wordsworth from the Parish of Royston and Richard Townend of Hoyland, dated 1738, 26.5cm x 55cm, together with a collection of legal documents, most 18th or 19th century and relating to Yorkshire.

SCRAP ALBUM. A cloth-bound album containing numerous mounted scraps and greetings cards, late 19th/early 20th century, mounted many to a page on 29 leaves.

CRESTS & MONOGRAMS. A leather-bound album containing approximately 75 pages of mounted chipped crests and monograms, many identified on the opposing page, together with five further albums containing mounted crests and monograms.

CRESTS & MONOGRAMS. A cloth bound 'The Lincoln Crest & Monogram Album' containing 36 pages of mounted clipped crests and monograms, neatly arranged on printed surrounds, together with eleven further albums containing mounted crests and monograms.

JOURNALS. A manuscript 'Journal of 3 months trip across the water', by John Eardley Eardley-Wilmot, entries dated 8th July 1829 to October 1829, with a mounted travel document to the inside cover, the journal detailing his grand tour in Europe, including France, Switzerland, Italy and Luxembourg, and two related draft journals, together with an album of clipped signatures, including William Wilberforce, William Pitt the Elder, Edmund Burke, Charles J. Fox and Charles Cornwallis, and a collection of other various ephemera.
